Gateway becomes the newest Good Baby Box store location for the Community Development Council of Quinte (CDC-Q) Baby Box program.
“I can’t say enough about how excited we are to be able to offer the program in Tweed and to partner with an agency that prides itself on developing relevant programs and services to families in the Tweed region,” stated Bev Heuving, Good Baby Box Program Coordinator.
Mayo Hawco, Executive Director for Gateway, said “We have been a depot for the Good Baby Box Program for several years 1 day per month. Now the program will be available to our community on a weekly basis. In today’s economic climate, families are having to deal with rising inflation rates with fewer goods and services. If people are not able to afford basic necessities like diapers and infant formula, the health and wellbeing of our community will suffer.”
Throughout the pandemic, the Good Baby Box program continued to serve families in their catchment area. In 2021, the Good Baby Box program distributed 7,638 good baby boxes to families throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. This will be the 12th location for the Good Baby Box program.
Rene Young, Early Childhood Educator for Gateway added, “We are so excited to have a store with product on site that will make it easier for families to access the program when they need it. Community members can place an order by either visiting the store or calling the Centre.”
The Good Baby Box is a weekly program that helps families stretch their baby food budget and is available to families who reside in Hastings and/or Prince Edward Counties. The Tweed location is open to serve customers every Tuesday from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.
